When you’re managing others in a professional setting, you need to be compassionate. If an employee who regularly completes his or work up to standards makes a mistake, don’t get overly upset at the mistake or the employee, simply address the mistake so it can be avoided in the future. By leading with compassion, you become more approachable to your employees, which will help you avoid problems later.

You also need to trust your employees to do their jobs. Managers who don’t trust their employees tend to hover around the office checking up on work way too often. Not only does this diminish productivity, but it also shows your employees that you don’t trust them to do their jobs, which will lead to a lack of motivation throughout the work place.

Lastly, make sure you make yourself available to your employees over the course of the work day. Managers who make themselves available for questions, concerns, or details will create a comfortable working environment for everyone. It is your job as a manger to help lead your employees toward success; make yourself available to help as often as needed.
